WVT Industries effectively cleans a tank with ethyl acrylate

Ethyl acrylate

Another success story for WVT's specialised chemical formulations

This time it involved a project at a Lubrizol site where an Ethyl Acrylate storage tank needed to be cleaned. The storage tank had a total capacity of 250 cubic meters with a diameter of 6 meters and still contained 1,000 liters of concentrated product. Ethyl acrylate, an irritant and flammable substance used in the production of polymers, resins, plastics and rubber, has a very low flash point and a very sharp acidic odor.

The cleaning task required a specialised, customised approach. WVT contacted Peeters Cleaning who would assist in cleaning the tank. One of Peeters' gas wash trucks was used to carry out the proposed cleaning technique.

Initially, a quantity of 7,500 liters of Acrylex 55 was added to the storage tank. Acrylex 55 is an active, odor encapsulator specifically designed to neutralize acrylic odors. The Ethyl Acrylate and Acrylex 55 were then circulated through the scrubber and tank by heavy-duty pump for 12 hours. An additional dose of Acrylex 55 was sprayed on the Ethyl Acrylate in the scrubber to obtain maximum odor neutralization.

As the initial results looked promising, a second rinse was started for 12 hours also with 7,500 litres of Acrylex 55. The residual product was then safely pumped away and disposed of.
