Demulsifier Q03 - WVT Industries

In less than 12 hours, the demulsifier Q03 reduces the treatment and disposal costs of oil-water slobs

According to the MARPOL Convention (Annex I), slobs based on oil-water emulsions must be treated. WVT Industries, the Belgian market leader in industrial cleaning products and solvents, has developed a range of highly efficient demulsifiers to treat these slobs. Thanks to its low dosage, the new Demulsifier Q03 separates the water from the oil at a lower cost than most other competitive products .

A water content of less than 1%

MARPOL-olie is een water-in-olie-emulsie of een olie –in –water – emulsie waarvan de samenstelling sterk variërend is. Het toevoegen van de nieuwe Demulsifier Q03 aan MARPOL-oliën versnelt het decantatieproces tussen de olie en het water aanzienlijk waardoor er < 1% water zich in de oliefase bevindt. In minder dan twaalf uur optimaliseert Demulsifier Q03 de calorische waarde van de gerecyclede olie en verhoogt hierdoor de waarde van de olie. Om optimale resultaten te verkrijgen, wordt de water-in-olie-emulsie verwarmd tot 80 à 90 °C voordat de Demulsifier Q03 wordt toegevoegd.

Smaller doses, better results

The optimum dosage of Demulsifier Q03 strongly depends on the specific nature of the oil emulsion. In order to determine the exact percentage required, WVT Industries analyses samples of oil-water slobs in its own laboratory, and then provides recommendations on a case by case basis. The recommended dosage of Demulsifier Q03 typically varies between 1500 and 4000 ppm relative to the total quantity of the oil-water emulsion.

Customer case: 0.42% water content at 1500 ppm

After addition of the WVT Demulsifier Q03 in doses of 1500 ppm, the water content in the oil layer decreased to 0.42%. The water-in-oil emulsion was thereby heated to 95 °C before adding the Demulsifier Q03. These results were obtained in 12 hours without changing the temperature variable. The customer indicated that he was satisfied with the first results obtained, and will continue to optimise all the variables.

Reduced processing costs

Demulsifier Q03 significantly reduces processing costs. It replaces the use of costly centrifugal applications. In addition, it reduces the treatment time to less than 12 hours, allowing larger volumes to be treated in a shorter period of time.

Sustainable solution

Demulsifier Q03, an organic liquid formulation of surfactants and dispersants, remains in solution in the oil phase and not in the water phase. The decanted water can be easily processed by a water treatment plant without any adverse effects on the marine environment.

Odour neutraliser reduces downtime

In addition to demulsifiers, WVT Industries also produces water-based liquid odour neutralisers to prevent odour nuisance or irritating vapours from escaping. The O-Scent range was developed to bind and/or neutralise numerous organic as well as inorganic odours including H2S, benzene, ammonia and even mercaptans. The chemical formula is 100% biodegradable. The O-Scent range can be used in various applications through atomisation but also through the use in gas extinguishers and/or direct addition to the odour source.
