TR 50 - drinking water tanks

TR 50: Disinfection of drinking water tanks

  1. Objective

The objective of this procedure is to establish conditions and standards to carry out the works efficiently and safely regarding the cleaning of drinking water tanks. Chemical cleaning with TR 50 removes lime, sediment, bio film, bacteria and viruses from the tanks.

  1. Application

This procedure applies to any drinking water tank.

  1. Preparation

In preparation for performing a cleaning of a potable water tank, the cleaner should provide the following measures on site :

  • Contact contact person on site and provide sufficient information regarding the work and its impact.
  • Asking for connection to potable water network to supply HD unit with water.
  • If possible, open manhole in advance (preferably 24 h in advance and with forced ventilation)

Immediately before export, the following actions should be taken:

  • Opening of manhole (preferably 24 h in advance and with forced ventilation)
  • Mapping the lo-to system (log out, tag out, try out)

Putting pumps out of service, blinding every pipe in the tank.

  • Measuring with a calibrated gas detection device
  • After taking the tank out of service and measuring, complete and sign the confined space permit
  1. execution of work

In order to work efficiently and safely, the work must be performed with at least 3 people.

An operator/operator for the vacuum truck and high pressure unit, a cleaner who enters the tank and a certified manhole guard.

The works are carried out according to an action plan, predetermined by the project manager and with the necessary knowledge of the works.

  • Setting up the vacuum truck in a safe and stable place
  • Readying the suction hoses, of which the hose that goes into the tank is food-grade
  • Set up the HD unit, hose and spray gun specifically for potable water tanks
  • Water supply comes through the hydrant and is drinking water, for connection have the hydrant flushed.
  • Preparation of the materials, such as cuisining materials, product and etc. ...
  • Before entry, the tank is measured again for oxygen.
  • Placing mat in front of entrance manhole access
  • On the mat we put mobile drip tray containing water with a 5% TR50 from WVT Industries.
  • In the drip tray the boots are placed for extra disinfection of the boots. The boots are food grade and feature a blue sole that leaves no marks.
  • Empty the remaining water before treading
  • Preparing for entry
  • Manhole guard takes his place with the necessary materials, suitcase containing: a gas detection device, harness with lifeline, escape mask escape set and a breathing air bottle with lung regulator and mask. If the manhole has limited access, we can also use a breathing air bottle, a relaxer with 15 meters of hose and equipped with lung regulator and mask.
  • Cleaner equipped with suitable boots, spray suit, safety glasses, P3 mask against legionella, safety harness with lifeline.
  • Operator gives necessary instructions and starts both vacuum truck, and HD unit. Also provided with harness in case of rescue operation.
  • The cleaner enters the tank and sprays it all the way out at 150 bar in order to damage as little paint/coating as possible.
  • After spraying, we proceed to manual cleaning, the tank is washed out/sprayed with a min of 5-7% TR 50 (WVT Industries), which removes biofilm and bacteria.
  • After manual washing/inspiration, the tank is thoroughly rinsed.
  • Finally, we move on to the real disinfection
  • We mist the tank using a pressure sprayer with a mixture of water and a minus 6% solution TR 50 from WVT Industries.
  • Allow to soak for 60 min and rinse thoroughly with water from the mains water supply (does not have to be high pressure, flow has more result than pressure)
  • During the entire process of this cleaning, the tank is kept dry by the hoses attached to the vacuum truck.
  1. Product TR 50 WVT Industries

TR 50 is a disinfectant based on stabilized hydrogen peroxide. The combination of the hydrogen peroxide as the active ingredient and stabilizers give the product long-lasting disinfection capabilities.

Its biocidal and oxidizing properties provide a powerful spectrum suitable for aerobic and anaerobic organisms, including sulfite-reducing anaerobic bacteria. Organic substances in the water such as bacteria are oxidized by the active oxygen to CO2 and H2O.

TR 50 is useful for biofilm removal.

TR 50, on the one hand, is a very good disinfectant and does not give corrosive side effects like chlorine-based disinfectants.

His attributes:
